Does Grandpa Dream of Cowboys? follows the harrowing journey of a rainbow trout in the Eastern Sierra, inspired by the film The Manzanar Fishing Club.
The story is a western based on the Owens Valley in the Eastern Sierra of California, and is a meditation on synthesis of self, history, and nature.
The WWII Japanese American Internment Camp named Manzanar serves as a place of cultural collision for the artist’s dual heritage of Japanese and American. Here, numerous histories inhabit the same place in contradiction; fantasy and reality, escapism and imprisonment, cultivation and destruction.
This serves as the third chapter of My Face Hurt from the Dust and the Wind.
